Saima was formed as a social group for Finnish immigrants in the Fitchburg area in 1898.  The Finnish Center at Saima Park has evolved into an organization  dedicated to preserving and promoting Finnish & Finnish-American heritage and culture.  Our function hall, summer hall, outdoor pavilion and sports fields are used for many Finnish social and educational events, such as Pannukakku Breakfast (open to the public), Finnish lessons, Workshops, Scholarship opportunities, Library/Museum with artifacts, Sauna Museum (traditional Finnish sauna), hiking trails (year round to members), snow shoe-ing, cross-country skiing (especially on Saturdays in February), and more, throughout the year. It is also available for rental for various community events.
